ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the current trends in lift traffic system analysis and design, and how they are driving the future of the industry. It is expected that these future developments will decide the shape in the area of lift traffic analysis and design. As the traffic arrangements become more complicated in buildings, this is expected to place a heavier burden on the lift group controller. Hall call allocation group control systems are becoming more widely used in new lift installations. One of the perennial problems that the lift industry has long grappled with is the reconciliation between the design of a lift system using calculation, and the corresponding results obtained from such a system under simulation. It has been accepted for a long time that lifts are not to be used for evacuation, especially in case of fire. The idealised optimal benchmarks (IOB) are widely used in the lift traffic analysis and design field.
