ABSTRACT

As we welcome technology into our homes, our offices, and even our bodies, we find that the current technological expansion is a doubleedged sword. Since people are living more of their lives online, it behooves psychoanalysts to attempt to describe the impact of technology on the psyche and the social scene in which it is embedded and attend to both its creative and destructive possibilities. Many of the benefits of the tech revolution are obvious. For example, limitless information is just keystrokes away. The ability to connect in cyberspace facilitates many kinds of conversations:  people from various parts of the world can connect and collaborate for artistic, professional, or political purposes, while friends and family members who live half a world away from each other can keep in touch through email and Skype.
