This chapter presents some of the resources to learn more about language beyond lectures, seminars and other direct learning resources. Books can be a good start, whether they are bought or accessed online. Textbooks are often more accessible and easy to read than other academic publications, because the authors take into account the knowledge-base of their audience. Textbooks also tend to include exercises, indications for further reading and a glossary. There are also journals that are less specific in their fields, such as Language, which is one of the most highly regarded journals in the field of linguistics, and which is deliberately open to publications from the entire area of linguistics. New research findings are generally presented in journal articles. Since journal articles are aimed at other linguists, they are often much more difficult to understand than textbooks. Luckily they tend to start with a short abstract, which is an overview of the research question and findings.
