ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses multicultural and multilingual education. As explained in Chapter 6, there is currently a global migration of peoples, which has raised issues in national school systems regarding multicultural and multilingual student populations. Most nations of the world face the issue of multicultural caused by the growth of an international labor market, multinational corporations, the search for better economic and political conditions, and displacement by war. As the host country of the largest number of global migrants, Americans have engaged in a broad spectrum of debates about the type of multicultural and multilingual education in schools.
