ABSTRACT

The front of house (FOH) is the command center of a lighting system, and as such it's important that it is able to accommodate all the needs of the equipment and its operators. In some cases a single 20-amp, 120-volt circuit or 16-amp, 230-volt circuit is sufficient to power everything at FOH, but in other cases the power requirements might be a lot higher. Lighting programmers spend big chunks of time sitting behind their consoles, pressing buttons, moving faders and encoders, and staring at monitors, so the physical configuration of FOH is very important. The most basic lighting console outputs DMX directly through one or more XLR connectors. Streaming Architecture for Control Networks is similar to Art-Net in that it is used to transport multiple universes of DMX over an Ethernet network, but it differs in how it accomplishes this task.
