ABSTRACT

News is essentially the portrayal of current events. Television is just one of many different media through which journalists tell their audiences about what is happening in the world around them, from a local, national and international perspective. This chapter looks at the processes through which news programming is created for television, the jobs of different people working in news, as well as different types of programmes which incorporate journalism in them. In particular it will focus on the specifics of producing news for television and online broadcast in the United Kingdom today. In some places I will refer to specific events and examples based on my own experience.
