ABSTRACT

Social media represents the biggest weapon in filmmakers' online crowdsourcing efforts. But crowdsourcing offline isn't only necessary, it's vital. Regardless of the fact that the filmmaker can reach almost anyone online with a quick search engine query, via social media. The people who didn't want to learn more about social media listed a desire for face-to-face interactions. The people who didn't want to learn about crowdsourcing offline had no use or were uneasy with face-to-face interactions. Filmmakers' social media efforts should complement and inform their offline efforts and vice versa. Unfortunately, for many, the pursuit of people or entities offline in an effort to satisfy the goals of a crowdsourcing campaign is either ignored entirely or is only utilized as a last resort strategy. The chapter presents four reasons people were not interested in learning about social media: Time restraints; Platforms are too crowded/Difficult to forge a meaningful identity; Belief that social media usage will wane; Prefer face-to-face interactions.
