ABSTRACT

Crowdsourcing is a relatively new term and, as such, has no tried and true definition attached to it. That may sound a bit scary or even might make the filmmaker concerned that this journey will be fraught with ambiguity. While the definition of crowdsourcing is seemingly shape-shifting before their very eyes, it's because the intelligentsia, in their own well intended but erudite way has, with all due respect, overcomplicated the situation. In November of 2013, the author was leading a panel on film crowdsourcing at the American Film Market (AFM) in Santa Monica titled Crowdsourcing Your Audience. As the filmmakers might imagine, that the author was a bit nervous, not because he got nervous in front of crowds, but simply because this was a very new subject and the first panel of its kind at the market. Every filmmaker rises to the occasion, giving clear examples of how crowdsourcing either impacts their work or projects they have developed.
