ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces a selection of case studies which show the different ways educators, families and specialists from other disciplines can work together to overcome children's learning barriers and increase their engagement for learning. The Engagement for Learning Framework was designed to be a collaborative tool, both in bringing together education colleagues and in maximizing multidisciplinary input and the opportunities for specialist advice. Collaborative approaches are key to unlocking the innate abilities of children with CLDD, and close partnership between the adults working with partner is essential. Teaching assistant involvement alongside teachers in the CLDD Project, both participating in and, in some cases, managing the project in their schools, was a success. Children with CLDD have needs that challenge the knowledge and experience of educators in schools. Many have high-level health, social and educational needs associated with their conditions.
