ABSTRACT

The philosophy of scientific experimentation (PSE) belongs to the philosophy of scientific practices (PSP). For that reason, there are two basic approaches in the research of PSP. The first is based on hermeneutics, which investigates and discerns the meaning of scientific practice, illustrates the meaning of the most important issues based on the notion of scientific practice. The second approach is to specify stereotypes of scientific practice. Laboratory has become an important theoretical concept in the philosophy of science, which is an important agent of scientific development. In traditional philosophy of science, laboratory is the place merely to produce scientific knowledge, with which the development of scientific knowledge and theory have nothing to do. PSE focus on six core themes: the material realization of experiments; experimentation and causality; the science–technology relationship; the role of theory in experimentation; modelling and experiments; and the scientific and philosophical significance of instrumentation.
