ABSTRACT

Sex in itself is not interesting to Foucault, and, indeed, he thinks that we must be very suspicious of the fact that we think it is interesting, since it is precisely this belief that sex is interesting that has incited us to speak so much about it, with all the power effects that this speech has had. It is power that is interesting, for Foucault, but ‘sex’ – as a social construct – needs to be studied because it is the primary avenue for the workings of power today.
