ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents an overall key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book studies the three societies to the related question of whether medicine in particular and professions in general in neo-Weberian terms in modern societies have changed their nature by becoming either increasingly professionalized or deprofessionalized. A neo-Weberian framework includes an assessment of the significance of sociopolitical environments, including the state and the market, the changing face and form of medical professionalization and the professional regulatory scenarios. The addition of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), alongside the allied health professions, has helped to provide a more holistic view of the place of medicine in the broader health care division of labour in Britain, the United States and Russia. Metaphors have already been employed to positive effect internationally in examining medicine and related professions in the neo-Weberian literature.
