ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on patients' nutritional health. If they are seen within a specialist eating disorder team, their therapist and team will assess and monitor their nutritional health, and work with them to make changes to improve it. Patients' weight and height will be used to calculate their body mass index. This shows if they are in the healthy range. Their weight will be checked regularly to monitor gain or loss. Patients' pulse rate and blood pressure show if their heart is strong enough to pump blood around their body normally. Blood pressure will be taken when they are sitting and standing, to check how well their heart adjusts when they stand up which makes more demands on their heart. Overeating in response to the easy availability of very palatable foods is a common place experience in our present environment.
