In the summer of 1939 far greater problems than those of Elsie’s ministerial training were presenting themselves to the world. The coming of war against Germany had long been predicted and the H[SHFWHGFRQÁLFWEURNHRXWRQO\WKUHHPRQWKVDIWHUVKHKDGJUDGXDWHG from King’s College, in September 1939, absorbing the attention of church leaders, almost as much as politicians, and affecting all walks of life. What implications would this hold for Elsie’s future?
