ABSTRACT
I outline here the hypothesis that participation in religious rituals contributes to religious belief in a specific way. I first explain what I mean by rituals and religious belief; then follows a cognitive analysis of motor action and agency, followed by an analysis of the nature of shared information. Finally, I try to show in what ways religious rituals can enhance religious belief as an explicit or implicit view that religious concepts refer to something real which is of vital importance.
