ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on specific budget breakers and see how filmmakers can address them without messing with their story too much. If the scene absolutely has to be in the library, filmmakers should rent some shelves and books and make the production designer earn her keep by making it all look real. Of course, all the art had to be framed and that was expensive but if they absolutely need that environment for their scene, they will have to spend the money. It is probably easier to re-create a bar on a sound stage where they have time to fiddle, light, and explore shot options. Supermarkets are usually always open and do not want them messing with their business. Filmmakers need to decide how important it is for their character to be seen in a hospital bed. Schools will sometimes let them shoot on weekends. Shooting when schools are filled with kids is very problematic.
