Reflecting the emphasis of targets for education in Europe in 1970s on national education planning among European nations, OECD launched the Mediterranean Regional Project. Scores on both Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) are supposed to influence the national education systems.
