ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in this book. The book documents and analyses the history of dispossession and displacement of the adivasi communities of Wayanad, Kerala. It provides an update of the recent developments concerning adivasi land issues in Wayanad and reflect on the broader problem of indigeneity-class intersection. The book revisits the adivasis' demand for land in the context of the Forest Rights Act of 2006 (FRA) of the government of India and its implementation, and comment on the recent land struggles. It demonstrates the prospects of the adivasis' struggle for land and social advancement have varied with the changes of government in Kerala. The neoliberal reforms have made significant inroads into the Kerala model and changed its social democratic and transparent character. The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) represented a significant state intervention under the Congress-led government in post-reform India, although the neoliberal lobby has been opposing it.
