ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on compiling profiles of pupils' attainments using methods that are particularly suited to autistic pupils and important areas of practice to evaluate in inclusive autism education. Profiling pupil learning is about creating snapshots of significant moments in learning that capture what children and young people know and can do, and in what ways they are developing. One-page profiles are used in schools to provide concise, relevant and rich information about the quality of a pupil's learning experiences. The creating a picture of development' is especially important in relation to children's social-emotional learning and social communication, which are areas of learning and development that are hard to record except as descriptive accounts made over time. For children with autism, as for anyone who experiences communication difficulty, the effectiveness of communication in their school setting is critically important to their experience of teaching and learning.
