You may wonder, “Exactly what does a psychologist do in a deployed environment?” The duties vary depending upon the location and the number of other mental health staff present. I am the only mental health provider for 1200 Airmen and Soldiers, but there are also 30,000 Soldiers in the local area that might come see me rather than their own mental health providers. In addition, the military airport is a 10-minute walk away so sometimes one of the 100,000 people who pass through the airport each month fi nds their way to my offi ce.
