ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that work careers in the twenty-first century cannot be fully understood if we continue to describe them as principally positive and attractive experiences, as the mainstream management and HRM literature has traditionally described them. It believes that by relating organizational careers and organizational misbehavior (OMB) and contributes to a more balanced and more realistic view of organizations. Careers have both collateral glory and, as the above cases reveal, collateral damage. Politicians, bureaucrats, and executives risk treading desperately in "career quicksand" on their self-motivated, high-visibility, high-investment journey to top echelon positions. Secrets are a thing of the past and formal curricula vitae (CVs) can no longer cover up for dark alleys. Under conditions of competitive environments, boundary less and borderless digital social media. By integrating the career in our OMB management framework and it begins to do just that.
