ABSTRACT
Festivals and celebrations mark the passing of time. They are fondly remembered throughout lives as significant 'happenings', be they seasonal, cultural or celebrations, such as birthdays and christenings, bar mitzvahs, anniversaries, or even funerals. The summer festivals are significant in their outwardness: reaching out to humanity in a gesture of sacrifice and rebirth; brotherhood and community; and reaching out to each other in a gesture of empathy. Multicultural festivals could be an integral part of the kindergarten where a child is from another faith or culture. Diwali or Deepavali falls sometime between October and November on a moonless night. The enthusiasm for multicultural festivals took on a new impulse, and people had many parents' evenings around the theme. Many kindergartens in the UK today have children from a wide variety of cultures who have integrated into the community. When the traditional English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish festivals are celebrated, the community can also become familiar with the country.
