ABSTRACT

This chapter considers some of the current trends which have emerged in reflective practice (RP) research and then look towards future possibilities. Increasingly, the language of reflection has attracted much attention and is likely to do so in the future. Micro-analytic research methods (such as conversation analysis or linguistic ethnography) have much to offer in promoting understandings of the language of reflection. The future offers multifarious opportunities for conducting research on reflective practice. Advances in technology, combined with multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary research, together with new approaches to mixed-methods research, collectively mean that there is enormous scope for enhancing understandings of reflective practice and for making it more accessible to professionals around the world. Future research should embrace these opportunities and develop closer networks of teachers, teacher educators and researchers in an attempt to ensure a more inclusive and more representative approach to professional development.
