ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the normal steps that need to take in order to prepare to do the film's mix by editor itself. Sound editors have been doing some mixing in the box and many rerecording mixers have been making changes to a sound editor's work on the rerecording stage. Mixing rooms that used egg crate-type foam and carpeting to act as acoustic treatment, but the results are limited and could actually create problems. A much larger mixing room, that simulates a cinema theater, would commonly use larger far-field monitors either mounted flush in the front wall or behind the screen. Sound Pressure Level, dB Sound Pressure Level, is the scale we use when we talk about the real world. A mixing stage will often have two or more computers holding tracks to be mixed and even a separate computer to record the stems and print master on to.
