ABSTRACT
The safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment is the responsibility of the organization in which they work. In performing arts and special events, it is often the
production manager’s responsibility to oversee this very important area. This doesn’t mean
it is solely the production manager’s responsibility; everyone has a role in safety. Oftentimes, the technical director is involved, overseeing the safe construction of scenery or rigging installations, as well as writing and maintaining the shop manual for the safe use of tools.
