ABSTRACT

The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)1 is the basic federal law under which pesticides are regulated. Pesticides are sometimes called economic poisons. The term implies that pesticides are toxic substances with economic value as opposed to those toxic substances without economic value. For agriculture, pesticides are essential for a variety of purposes. As discussed in Chapter 16, pesticides, albeit those from natural sources, are used even in certified organic production.
