ABSTRACT

The economics of climate change (CC) impacts as well as adaptation to climate change is a comparatively challenging area of research. Even though there have been studies attempting (mainly) to evaluate different interventions undertaken in different situations, no agreed methodology to assess overall costs has been successfully demonstrated. Current estimates of the costs and benefits of the likely impacts of CC on agriculture and livelihoods of the rural population are based on simple assumptions and estimation procedures. An understanding of the full array of CC impacts and the intervention options, including institutional and policy challenges, is crucial and timely to prioritize the most effective intervention strategies.
