ABSTRACT

In non-domestic situations it is likely that a service engineer would be employed to pro - vide detailed design and layout drawings, which would be used as the base to prepare quantities. In such cases the service installation work can be extensive and is likely to be given the title ‘mechanical and electrical installation’. In regard to small-scale, low-rise residential property, the appointment of a mechanical/electrical service engineer is unlikely and limited design detail would be available. General layout drawings will identify the location of sanitary appliances, socket outlets, light switches, boilers, radiators and the like, but there will be no indication of pipe or cable runs; these will be left for the plumber or electrician to determine.
