ABSTRACT

Drainage below ground provides for the dispersal of foul and storm water from a building to a point of disposal or treatment. The New Rules of Measurement 2 distinguish between disposal systems above and below ground level (NRM2.33 and NRM2.34, respectively). An explanation of the approach to measuring disposal systems above ground is provided in Chapter 13 (see Waste pipework, 13.08). Any drainage work below existing buildings and any work outside the boundary of the site will need to be identified and measured separately. As with other NRM2 work sections, it will be necessary to provide details of the proposed drainage system layout in support of the tender documents. This information, together with details of all works and materials that are deemed included, can be found in the opening section of NRM2 34. For any estimators not familiar with NRM2, it would be sensible to check the ‘deemed included’ list since this now includes many items that in previous versions of the Standard Method of Measurement were measured and costed as separate items.
