ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book helps the trainee, newly qualified and experienced class and subject teachers, working in a range of educational settings from early years settings, to maintained primary and secondary schools, free schools and academies to meet the government's latest special educational needs and disability (SEND) legal requirements. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) access downloadable online resources that accompany this book, which can be tailored and customised to suit the context of the education setting. Alongside these new SEND reforms, a number of accompanying educational developments in relation to initial teacher training (ITT) and the continuing professional development (CPD) of teachers occurred, which saw a major shift away from local authority-centralised responsibility for school improvement and the delivery of CPD for teachers and support staff, to a school-based model for building capacity among school staff.
