ABSTRACT

According to the A-theory, reality is constantly changing simply in virtue of the passage of time. Time literally flows – the now is a real, objective, moving entity. Any description of reality solely in B-series terms is incomplete, since it cannot tell us what is happening now. Presentism is a radical doctrine and should not be confused with the truism that only present events are happening now. Modal realism is the view that all possible worlds exist and hence that the actual world has no privileged status. The B-theory is the view that all times exist and hence that the present moment has no privileged status. It is often said that the A-theory is the common-sense view of time, on the grounds that people directly experience the flow of time. The Growing Universe theorist should deny that there can be such a description.
