ABSTRACT

This chapter presents what 'crafting a concluding section' means, why this concept is important to effective informational writing, and key recommendations for helping your students craft strong concluding sections in their own works. A strong conclusion is an important tool for creating an effective piece of informational writing. Without a conclusion, a piece of writing would lack any sense of closure. Final Thought or Message is also important that a conclusion leaves readers with a final thought or message related to the piece's topic, as doing so gives readers something to continue to think about once they have finished reading the work. The chapter describes a step-by-step instructional process to use when teaching students about crafting a concluding section. A fifth-grade classroom and see how the students in that class explored the writing tool of crafting an effective conclusion.
