ABSTRACT

In 2010, approaching the end of the lease period for their office space in the Camelback Corridor, DPR Construction looked at an urban renewal zone in search of a new home for their Phoenix Regional Office. Since the new office building was furnished with work stations recycled from DPR’s previous location in Phoenix, only a few new work stations had to be built. After a design and construction period of only ten months, the dilapidated windowless building was reborn as a modern net zero energy office building. Most of the new wood used during construction came from sources certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Space-defining interior panels were made from FSC-certified fast growing bamboo. Implementing strategies for water reuse in a desert city office building is challenged by limited access to rainwater and graywater. During the three first months in 2014, the rainfall in Phoenix totaled 32 mm.
