ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how parts of self are distributed into the robotic machines. The design of robots is about mimicking human forms, so it seems obvious then to state that the roboticists use themselves as the first point of reference. The chapter then describes sociable robots. Sociable robots also represent artificially intelligent kinds of relational artifacts. They have a sociable, physical and emotional repertoire that act together as a communicative apparatus. The chapter further begins with the first part of the strategy: the transference of psychic and physical experiential sufferings into the robots. The face is important in social interaction and communication and, from this perspective, it can appear reasonable for the roboticist to focus on this area at the expense of other parts of the body. Finally, the chapter demonstrates the interrelatedness of robot and roboticist.
