ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about the client couples who will terminate at the end of their eight sessions of pre-marital counseling. Usually at about the sixth or seventh session, a clinician should know whether or not it would be a good idea to continue with treatment or to terminate treatment. At this point, the best approach to take is to bring up termination directly with one's client. The potential thing one can do in the termination session is to give couples a clear picture of what married life truly looks like. The chapter describes the five principles for a successful namely choosing to love; being empathetic; fighting respectfully; asking for needs and wants effectively; and keeping the spark alive. Clinicians have learned ways to structure each session for pre-marital counseling, and interventions that can be used to help couples learn the principles so they can work on keeping a healthy vital marriage.
