ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the potential utility of Cooperative Learning as a pedagogical model for persons with disabilities at the middle and secondary levels. In Chapter 7 we argued that Cooperative Learning can be used as a teaching tool to foster social interaction between all students to create a truly inclusive learning environment. Using specific examples from research currently being conducted in the UK, Australian, and US contexts we highlight how preparing for and implementing Cooperative Learning in a secondary school inclusive Physical Education class can either promote or discourage interactions (Dowler, 2012; Grenier & Yeaton, 2012). Specifically the chapter discusses the use of Cooperative Learning in the creation of an inclusive Physical Education class.
