ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes some key messages by reviewing some of the main implications for learning-oriented assessment in the cases. It discusses some possible strategies for implementing assessment change effectively, summarizes the vision of excellence in assessment, and concludes with a consolidated list of main implications for practice. A common assessment mode was an extended written piece of work in the form of an essay, case report or project report. The nature, sequence and cumulativeness of tasks can open up opportunities for dialogic forms of feedback and promote the intertwining of feedback and instruction. The architecture case was a prime example of the integration of these three elements of learning-oriented assessment. Oral presentations were a further feature of task design which promoted peer feedback and self-reflections relating to the nature of quality business presentations. The learning-oriented assessment framework suggests that teachers need to have reasonably sophisticated conception of assessment task design.
