ABSTRACT

The groups work well with a maximum of four children all from the same year group and preferably the same class to ensure the maximum impact of transferable skills on their return to class. The group should consist of either all the same gender or an equal mix of girls and boys. The group is an ideal opportunity to boost children who are not as happy or settled as they could be or achieving their full potential. The physical and emotional environment that is being provided by the group work is crucial to its success and impact. The facilitator must ensure they follow the time guidelines set out in the group work pack as this will enable the group to run smoothly. The group facilitator keeps the folders and their contents in a safe place until the last session when the children can take them home if they want to.
