ABSTRACT

A whole school approach to emotional health and well-being is a key component of achieving success for individual children within the school. Throughout the course of a school day there are many situations that may enable children to feel good about themselves and to achieve success. Lunchtimes in schools can be the most challenging part of the day, especially if the weather results in children having to be kept inside. The lunch period can be a difficult time for children as it is generally less structured and may feel disorganised and chaotic. A beneficial tool for all school staff is the ability to reflect on themselves and their practice in an honest and open manner and consider how it may feet to be a child in their school. The quality of the relationships between staff in school impacts on their ability to work together effectively and to model positive relationships to the children.
