ABSTRACT

The group work sessions provide a safe and structured environment, which enables children to practise and develop new skills. The group work programme in this chapter is carefully structured and the activities are clear, simple and easy to follow because the focus is on the relationships within the group and enabling children to make changes in their behaviour. The experience of delivering group work provides the facilitator with the opportunity to focus on and get to know the children in a more relaxed way. It enables them to build a connection and get to know them better. Delivering the group work programme provides the facilitator with an ideal opportunity to develop new skills that can be transferred to their role outside of the group. The group work provides an opportunity to develop children's social and communication skills and enables some children to find their voice for the first time, while others can practise being less domineering towards other people.
