ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the dynamism of capitalist production and the trade on which it is based through exploring a series of debates that focus on new forms of trade. The nature of trade has shifted over time as the structure of the world economy has been pushed and pulled into new forms by processes of competition. Trade in renewable energy is expected to grow as more and more countries turn a green industrial policy towards a more sustainable global economy. The World Trade Organization estimates that it now accounts for 20% of global trade and the service sector is responsible for one-third of employment around the world. The international literature on trade and technology development focuses on two main mechanisms of knowledge accumulation. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
