Definitions Interest or pressure groups are formed by people to protect or advance a shared interest. Like political parties, groups may be mass campaigning bodies, but whereas parties have policies for many issues and, usually, wish to form a government, groups are essentially sectional and wish to infl uence government only on specifi c policies.
