ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses plans on Projects In Controlled Environments (PRINCE2) for beginners. It is commonly accepted that one of the most common causes of projects failing to deliver benefit is a neglect of the planning process. A plan is the backbone of every project and is essential for a successful outcome. Good plans cover all aspects of the project, giving everyone involved a common understanding of the work ahead. Planning is something that needs to be learned. It is not an inherent skill with which people are born. The highest level is the project plan, which is created at the start of the project and updated at the end of each stage. The initial project plan is a part of the project initiation documentation. The project plan is a mandatory plan in a PRINCE2 project. The project managers who say that they keep all the details in their head are simply 'fire-fighters'.
