ABSTRACT

The progress theme describes the mechanisms that will monitor a project, compare actual progress against what was planned, forecast future events and control any deviations from the plan. It supports the Projects In Controlled Environments (PRINCE2) principles of managing by stages, managing by exception and continued business justification. Project control involves measuring actual progress against the planned targets. A PRINCE2 project must have at least two stages they are initiation and the specialist work of the project. According to size and risk, the second stage may be broken down into more stages. Stages give the project board opportunities at formal moments in the project to decide whether the project is no longer viable, and if not close it down. The project manager provides confirmation of customer acceptance of the end product before asking the project board to allow the project to close.
