ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how to use verbs in the passive voice. It shows how to write an invitation and speak politely on the telephone, and shows ownership using genitive -s verbs or prepositional phrases. Colloquial Norwegian provides a step-by-step course in Norwegian as it is written and spoken today. Colloquial Norwegian will be an indispensable resource both for independent learners and students taking courses in Norwegian. In a passive sentence, the grammatical subject undergoes an action or has its state changed. In Norwegian, one way to express the passive is by adding an -s ending to the infinitive of a verb. The use of possessive pronouns to show ownership. With nouns or the names of people, prepositions are used or genitive -s, with no apostrophe. Confirmation is a rite of passage for young Norwegians.
