ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts in this book. The book explores how children learn and develop in order to understand of what they see and hear. It also helps to recognize good practice, and to become an advocate, one need to become aware and critical. Many researchers, writers and theorists noted that young children are constantly raising questions to adopt a monocultural view of child development. Jean Piaget was interested in cognitive development model had a focus on what the child cannot do and it applies to the notion that young children are egocentric. Loris Malaguzzi was instrumental in helping peasant women in the Reggio Emilia of Italy set up a series of nursery schools to provide educational opportunities for young children. Bame Nsamenang says that the current thinking about child development in Africa focus on the child learning and development. The book summarizes that people learn through all experiences, wherever and whenever they take place.
