ABSTRACT

There are a wide variety of different assessment methods that can be used in countless different situations and applications. Certain kinds of assessments are straightforward and transparent, whereas others may be more complex and require a greater degree of understanding to use and interpret appropriately. Speaking more specifically about 'psychometric' assessments, there is one particular sub-class of assessments which is often used in workplace contexts. In broad terms, psychometrics are standardised assessments of psychological attributes. On looking at the content of many personality questionnaires, it's hardly surprising that they are controversial in psychology. A number of studies have found that well-constructed, work-relevant personality questionnaires do have a role to play and can offer validity in the measurement of workplace performance.
