ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the results of two separate validation studies of the Concept Model of the Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ). Interest in the use of personality questionnaires for occupational selection in Europe and worldwide has never been higher. The first development phase of the OPQ took place in the United Kingdom (UK) between 1981 and 1984, and was supported by 53 sponsoring organisations in the private and public sectors which provided financial sponsorship and access to trialling groups. The development of the OPQ progressed via literature surveys, repertory grid analysis and critical incident techniques to develop initial models of personality which were extensively trialled and progressively refined. The overall study is based on two separate one-day assessments, in two different organisations which included the use of the OPQ Suite and two tests of cognitive ability. OPQ scales correlating with 'Entrepreneurial', which were not hypothesised, include being less Traditional and more Change Orientated, Conceptual and Innovative.
