ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores the meaning, potential, and implications of networked scholarship. The emergence of networked scholarship as a practice has extensive implications for scholars, scholarship, and academic institutions. Networked scholarship is largely in a phase of ongoing development within the larger ever-fluctuating environment of higher education. Individual scholars and institutions, both networked and otherwise need to evaluate the purposes and functions of scholarship and take part in devising systems that reflect and safeguard these values of scholarly inquiry. In other words, universities need to grapple with networked scholarship, as well as with the changing nature of scholarship, on a curricular level. Networked scholarship also requires shifts in the ways that we view our identity as scholars, in the ways we think about media, and in the ways that we think about social stratification.
