ABSTRACT

Jaime is an assistant professor at a large research-focused university in the United States who is quite comfortable with technology. Jaime however, has more social and ethical questions about technology than technical ones, and is ambivalent about social media, especially as they pertain to collapsing contexts and bringing together individuals who may not fully represent Jaime's identity or perspectives. Imagine Jaime reflecting on social media and networked practice, as many of us have done, after yet another case of social media turbulence hits the news: Facebook is probably the only social media tool that author use. Self-censoring has made me limit how much author use social media because it's taking up too much of my thinking. One of the first social media sites they used was MySpace. The author didn't look at that as a professional space at all.
